Leather Slip Case for my Ashley Iles XL Froe

The Ashley Iles XL Froe is a great tool, but it comes in a flimsy plastic slip case that I couldn't bring myself to hang on the workshop wall. I ditched that and made a leather slip case for it instead. The leather is 3mm Chestnut Walpier Buttero from the Tuscany region of Italy and the thread is beige 0.6mm Ritza Tiger thread. The main challenge with this was the stitching. At 17mm thick, that's a lot of leather to punch through. Although I accurately marked and punched the stitching holes from both sides, I knew from experience that the chances of the holes lining up was basically nil. You have to use a stitching awl on each hole as you are stitching to find the exit hole on the other side of the leather. This isn't difficult once you get the hang of it, but it does slow down the stitching process a lot. Needless to say, I'm relieved to call it done.

Nice result, Andy! The stitches look great, so I’d say your extra effort paid off.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thanks Dave. Would you believe there is over 7m of thread in that case. Having to pull all that through each stitch and try to prevent it from tangling was really trying my patience I can tell you.

Beautifully crafted sir, the stitching is spot on perfect.
Thanks, I've got very sore fingers now. LOL.

I love the leather work.
Best thing is how it ages and forms to the tool.
Amazing skill and Buttero for a tool! After I saw your sheath project, I started to collect leather working tools and now I'm almost ready to start it:)

No name noobie here

Nice Andy! I've done some leather work in the past and totally believe you on the amount of thread needed.
