Jewelry Box

As usual, the only woods I can confidently identify in this piece are walnut and cherry. The top and bottom are made from an interesting, unidentified species—beautiful, dense, and surprisingly heavy.

The box measures 4.25 inches tall, 5.25 inches deep, and 8.25 inches long. It’s assembled with box joints, though this time I varied the spacing and left them slightly proud.

Inside are two removable trays with leather-lined bottoms, each fitted with figured black walnut handles. A subtle rebate keeps the trays centered while maintaining an even margin all around.

The top section offers divided storage beneath a magnetically secured door. The divider is also held in place with magnets, making it fully removable.

The piece is finished with blonde shellac, followed by a topcoat of spray lacquer.

Interesting details!  Attractive and all-around good looking box.    Well done.

Gorgeous as always John, you have a knack for combining species.
The lid storage is interesting, with the tilt, it makes for easy access and visibility for the contents.
Nice! I like that lid storage, too. I made a small tote to take when carving away from home (have not done so) and should put a divider like that in it, if I ever do so. The top and bottom look like Ipe to me.

Cool box John, might be due to lighting in the pic, but it looks old/aged. Love finger joints, like better spaced DTs, that population you did of the interior is great, love the pull out once the lid is up, and has levels. Leather is so rich, a winner there.

Great work John
Beautiful work John! Could that heavier wood for the top be Teak.
Really nice work.
