Hand Saw Cabinet

Well this has been a long time coming. Having bought most of my backsaws and hand saws between 2013 and 2016, I have finally built a cabinet to house them. I can't tell you how happy this makes me, since I no longer have to move them from A to B, leaning them against one wall or another and inevitably kicking them over.

This is the second cabinet on the second tool wall in my little workshop. The top drawer houses my saw files, saw sets and jointer file and my Veritas saw file angle setting device. The bottom drawer holds various carving knives, a tang hole saw (broach), some mini gouges and a couple of Kolrosing knives.

100% hand tools from dimensioning the wood to cutting the dovetails. This is the first time I've attempted Houndstooth dovetails and it will probably be the last. Not because they are any more difficult to cut, but simply because there is no point to them, other than the fact that they look fancy.

Next up will be a home for my hammers and mallets and a few other miscellaneous tools that I like to have to hand.

Thanks for looking!

That’s gorgeous Andy, fantastic work!  I’m not big on painted wood normally but I really like how the Oak stands out against the gray😎 And the houndstooth dovetails were worth the effort.  They make a great looking drawer!
Beautiful work! And the dovetails do look awesome!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Thanks Kenny. I chose to use painted pine for the cabinet because it is cheap and readily available from my local big box store. I can get the oak there too. It also reminds me that these cabinets are not fine woodworking but rather utilitarian, so I don't have to beat myself up if something is less than perfect.. I think the painted look also throws the viewers attention on the tools rather than the cabinets themselves.

Thanks Ryan. The dovetails look less awesome the closer you get and of course I picked the best one to photograph. LOL. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised by how they came out to be honest.

Nice work Andy, the half blind houndstooth dovetails is a nice touch.

Nice! I'm not doing that dovetail, once. I envy you the wall space.

love the way you use "shop storage" as a way to perfect your skills!
Nicely done!

@Dark_Lightning - I'm fast running out of wall space now. Two more cabinets and it will be gone. The ceiling is looking good though. LOL.

@ SplinterGroup - Does anyone ever perfect their skills? The better I get, the more I realize that perfection is unattainable. Still worth striving for though in my opinion.
