The words of that insidious Aussie politician Malcolm Fraser, “Life wasn’t meant to be easy” came to roost when I installed my stereo system,
(which reminds me of why I used to make boxes,
to keep that mindless robot vac out of the wires)… and later on activated a large TV, sound bar and a small surveillance TV,
those remotes bred worse than rabbits and when you add the tissues, for those tear jerkers,
there was bugga all room left available on the couch to rest my cask-o-vino. Even the multi-controller
needed a remote… just kidding, but the rot had set in .
Falling back on my OCD/ADHD, they needed organisation and I made a container for them,
… and for all you naysayers that poo-poo MDF, that MDF box has outlasted a very expensive maroon coloured leather couch,
Now I’ve either captivated your attention or bored you to tears, this post is about a cabinet I made to support that MDF controller box rather than culprit sitting on the couch and pinching all the popcorn.
I will never profess to be a fine, or even competent, furniture maker, but I will push my luck and after designing it in SketchUp,
(the screen dumps date this back to 2013… hell that’s nearly… a long time ago )…this was hacked up out of pine, with my Leigh D4R dovetailer acting inconspicuous in the background...
stained black, and covered with some cheap water based varnish. May not look great, but was useful,
(yeah, there was a health stint in my SWMBO dominated life... tomato juice).
The drawers were also dovetailed… I was stupider back then... though the drawers are pulled out to hide my coke (bottles)… and OOOH!... found another rabbit remote,
While I poo-poo cheap, I should bite my tongue when you see those half stained drawers…
I must have saved myself 10¢.
I may have professed this before but I am a creature of many talents habits and one of which is video gaming. Having a PS3 and PS4 playback on that TV, they had their own controllers that… OMG… needed more storage space.
I added an extra tabletop, to keep the dust of my coke powder bottles, there was that added bonus of hold the PS4 controllers.
Oh, I mentioned rabbits before… those (above) are not rabbit droppings, but chocolate coated raspberry jubes.
Sometime in the past, I also added a receptacle for a Samsungtablet,
just to over congest the already ridiculous traffic.
If you got this far... Thanks for watching.

Always good to have that extra storage space next to the comfy chair! Appreciate the simple design with the D4 put to use! Haven't used mine in quite some time.
I'm a bit surprised you don't have a build in side fridge next to or built in to that chair!
Got organized and labeled all the remotes that belong to retired A/V equipment I've stocked piled over the years. Dozens of the "rabbits" as LBD calls them, even remembered to remove the batteries (which I even do with the rarely used but still in-service remotes). It used to be that dead batteries would mean a trip to the battery stockpile to retrieve fresh cells. Now a-days, the batteries tell you they just died by spuing out their guts into the remote.
Anybody have a use for a 27" CRT console TV in excellent shape (also have a 33" and several 20")?
Several of the VCR's are now "vintage" and worth more, front panel loaded with "fiddly controls" like tracking and no freaking clock flashing 12:00.
SplinterGroup .... Old joke: How many men does it take to open a beer? A: None. It should be already open when your wife brings it to you as you sit on the couch watching the game.
That's the trouble with some jokes... they never make it into the constitution.
