Scroll Saw Wrench

This is a metalworking project for wood working tools!!
Doug inherited this Rigid scroll saw and the head of the screw to tighten the bottom of the blade is so hard to reach let alone tighten or loosen. He wanted a wrench to access it. So I first milled two round  grooves into the head of the screw and then made a wrench with 2  1/4" pegs sticking out to fit the grooves in the screw.
The parts are all steel and brazed together. The handle is 7" long with a bend at the end to turn it.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice job. I know how much fun that bottom screw is to loosen and tighten on mine.

The Other Steven

Hi Steven, the easiest thing to do would be to put  a socket head caps screw in there and then make a long extension allen wrench to work the screw. But I measured the screw as a #8 but it not and 8-32...so I went this route!.

Great solution to an aggravating problem. Thinking outside the box yields many useful and helpful resolutions to make life a little easier.
Good solution, nicely done.

Ron

Thank you all for the nice comments. I made a long allen  wrench for my scroll many years ago for the same reason!!
I also have 2 long wrenches that I made  for my Grizzly band saw to adjust the guides below the table!

Nice piece of equipment Jim. I would of tapping the threads to fit the socket head screw since I can't make tools.
Thanks, Danny, It was bear to get in there. I thought of that too but I might have had to remove that table and go get the right screw and this was quicker!

Slick Willy, or in this case Slick Jim to the rescue.

I've had a few tools that were engineered by someone who evidently never had to make an adjustment on their tool too.
Thanks, George. I have another one to make for a buddy, but this time I have time to get a socket head cap screw  and an Allen wrench and I'll weld part of the Allen wrench to a slim rod with a bend in the end.

Damn JJ, I keep following in your footsteps.

I like the thought of rugged metal, however, I loathe metal swarf in the workshop... so I avoid it like the plague.

Had similar issues with those finicky knobs and made my alternatives using the laser and bandsaw for the grips,
