I inserted a piece of 1/2 " X 8″ × 6′ oak recessed 1/ 4" down in the opening . The I trimmed the board with oak corner round . The picture is deceiving , the total height is 10"and 1/4 ". The top part is done .

It isn’t the model I prefer, but I like the craftsmanship needed to make such a casket. Only the miters are a challenge on it’s own. So well done Bruce.
