Flaming Cherry Rocker

Sam Maloof style Rocked I made from Flaming or Curley Cherry I found when I was in Amish country in Southern Tn. where I often buy Kiln dried Lumber from Mr. Yoder. On this day I spied some (undressed boards) Cherry Boards that ranged from 14” to 16” wide and 2” thick. As I brushed the saw dust away I could that these boards had a very figured grain,I purchased two of the boards just to see what lay beneath the surface and, I was not dissapointed when I ran them through the Planer they were Beautiful. In fact I drove back the next day and loaded up with boards cut from the same tree, over a 100 mile round trip and well worth it. This for me was a unique find. The accents are Black Walnut.
This is the 2nd. Maloof Style Rocker I have made using Scott Morrisons plans. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for posting this incredible rocker here! We just can’t get enough of that gorgeous cherry. Can’t wait to see what other masterpieces you’ll be making from the rest of it.

Wow! Just amazingly beautiful, true art. The wood, the lines and particularly that sculptured seat. Thank you for sharing.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thats a real good looking rocker
Wonderful work. I’ve always seen a rocker of this style as the apex of woodworking. Strong yet delicate, with so much negative space built into it. And you’ve done such a nice job on this one. Just beautiful.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".
