I’m attending a Christmas party this evening and Christmas sweaters are required.
Well, I’m not investing in a sweater just to wear this evening and I’ve left it far too late to crochet a sweater (if I wanted to) so I thought I’d make a Christmas scarf and wear it with a plain red sweater that I do own.
I might make another one, in the future, with some adaptations so here is my pattern.
WHITE / Beard
- chain 18
- sc loop-stitches across (see my previous project for my how-to)
- chain 1; turn; sc loop stitches back across
- slip stitch to bottom and sc loop stitches across. This now becomes the top. I did this keep loops facing “down”. This also makes a lovely “beard” along the bottom
- chain 1; turn; sc loop stitches across
- chain 1; turn; sc across
- chain 1; turn; sc loop stitches across
- chain 1; turn; slip stitch across; finish off and leave a LONG piece to use as beard in centre of next row
PINK / Face
- sc 6, (over strand of white); switch colours; sc 6 white (over strand of pink); switch and sc 6 pink
- chain 1; turn; sc across
- chain 2; turn; sc across
- chain 1; turn; sc 9; create a very thick bobble nose (popcorn stitch) in next stitch; sc 9
- next 4 rows: chain 1; turn; sc across; finish off
WHITE/Hair
- create 2 rows of loops (with row of slip stitch between); finish off
RED / Hat
- sc across; chain 2; turn
- dc; and then linked double crochet across; chain 2; turn
- 12 rows of above
- chain 4; skip 3; 12 sc; chain 4; skip 3; sc
- chain 3; dc; 2 linked double crochet across;
- chain 3; turn; repeat
- repeat this short row, to wrap around neck and hand down to the Santa face (40 rows?)
WHITE/ Pompom
- sc across
- loop stitches across and join to first;
- 2 loop stitches in each stitch around
- 2 loop stitches in each stitch around
- loop stitch in every other stitch
- loop stitch in every other stitch; continue around until it is “closed”
- cut a LONG piece of yarn; pull yarn through to red yarn and wrap around the white to secure into “pompom”; tie off
EYES
add eyes by nose.
(If you try this pattern and something isn’t working right, please let me know… this is by memory)
