This is an older one of mine, with individual squares doweled together. It’s from an old plan out of Woodworker’s Journal, and still available on their website, I believe. I made it in mahogany and poplar. The chess pieces are purchased, not my own. It went to my second son and he’s used it a lot in the last ten years. It’s held up well. Drilling for dowels and keeping everything in alignment was a chore, but it’s an effective way to make a chess board.
