Went from a 5 micron bag to a 1 micron cannister.

I have a 2 hp Ricon dust collector that came with a 5 micron bag. The bags are impossible to clean and a lot of dust came right through it. I got a 1 micron cannister today, ran a few pieces through the planer with the collector sitting in the sun coming through a window. There was zero dust that could be seen that got through the cannister. If you have been thinking about a cannister, I think you would love the difference if you don’t have one. Not doing a commercial for Woodcraft, but they have a sale on attachments for a week or two @ a full 15% off.

Seems like a great idea. Anything for a clean shop.

What do they run in price? i see the handle hanging there. Is that for cleaning the flaps? Did you actually talk with someone?

Jeff the regular price on this one was 250.00 with the 15% off, dropped it down to 212.00. The handle is attached to to a steel shaft that runs down the center of the cannister. Attached to the shaft are two rubber tipped paddles that hit the flaps and cleans off the attached dust down into the bag when you rotate the handle. I read a lot of reviews and I have a friend who bought one a couple of months ago and he loves it. Here is a pic of the interior.

I made that change few years ago and have no regret.
Like you, my bag was happy polluting.
I suggest a small cyclone in between and you won’t see much dust in the plastic bag.

Thank you Ianwater for the suggestion. I got a cyclone lid and a trash can this morning and have it hooked up. Inexpensive, but I think it will do the job. Photo attached. Thank you.

Great buy.
That will definitely do the job. Easy to empty too:)

Well Jack, I checked into getting canisters for mine and If I add two hundred more I could just get a brand new dust collector. Right now I have a twin collector that has 2300 cfm’s Made by Grizzly. The new one that replaces mine is 3500 cfm’s so I think im going to clean up my collector and sell it and order the brand new system. plus Grizzly has a save 10% on orders over 200 right now. I also have a one bagger that I just don’t use anymore so I could sell that too.

Sounds good Jeff, I hope it works out. The canister makes a world of difference.

Jack

I see that. I’ve been reading a lot on them. Thank you for sharing this. It really can mak a difference in increasing your cfms too. I saw some videos on adding a canister and how this increase cfms just amazing.

No doubt about it, anything with 5 micron bags/filters is little more than a dust pump. Nice upgrade….

Just a follow up line on new canister for dust collector. I did a lot of work on the bandsaw today. Normally, even with the dust collector attached there would be dust all over the table, in the floor on four sides of the saw an all over the hose running down from the saw. I just looked for dust and I don’t see any dust in either of the mentioned locations. Has to be the increase in CFM’s I assume. I am soooooooooo happy.

The one thing I despise the most is dumping barrels of sawdust in the dumpster. I wish I could pipe it in directly.

Well Jack all i can say your lucky. I talked to my wife about up grading and she said no. I even said if i sell my old one and my single collection and she still said no. She told me i need to tripple my shop income if i want big tools. She said i just got my tablesaw jointer and clamps. Rrrrr. Its hard to argue with women. But, the Wisconsin wood show is march 13,14,&15th so ill probably be coming home with something and ill sleep on the couch for a couple of days but hey ill have my stuff and she’ll get over it. Lol
