A Stack of Boxes

These are some boxes that I made back in the Spring, learning new joinery (for me) I used 3/8" Ash stock for the sides, with hand cut dovetails. The top is 1/4" Walnut, the bottom 1/4" Maple both set into a grove on the sides. I assembled the box then cut it open, I had a grove at the location of the cut to make a lip around the bottom half which the top would fit into. The fun part was another new task, making wooden hinges from 3/8" Walnut, those were cut like a box joint and the ends were rounded to allow for the swing, then a 1/8" brass pin was installed peening the ends over. I installed the by using some bamboo skewers cut to length and drill into the box. The finish was Natural Danish Oil, followed with paste wax.

This was a fun project to create, from the design to finishing.

Turned out great.  Nice to learn/practice new techniques.  You were very successful!
When I first tried woodworking, my goal was to “make a box; just a box; any box”

I

The boxes are real nice. I know from owning one.
Thanks Corelz, I still have a small stack sitting in the shop. Had to build a new one for the Knife Swap over at the other place. I think reveals are next weekend, but we will be missing one person who decided to get himself banned.
