Kitchen Remodel On The Cheap

My kitchen had oak raised panel overlay doors and drawers and I wanted everything flush mounted to look like craftsman style. I cut sections out of the rails and the doors and repaired all the spots on the doors where the hinges and the door pulls were. Then I flipped the doors around so the raised panels would now be on the inside and the flat panels would now be the outside. I trimmed the doors to fit flush and installed them with updated hinges and pulls. We then installed subway style marble backsplash and a granite countertop. Our kitchen is more to our taste and also a lot brighter.

wow what a change for the better.but would it have not been  easier to just make new doors and drawer fronts. thats what i did a couple years ago.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice work I like the inset doors better than overlay
Might have been on the cheap, but worth every effort, that looks great.

Actually it was super easy and didn't cost a cent. The hard part was repairing the damage on the face frames made by the old style hinges. Also getting the gaps between the doors and face frames correct because white doors with dark gaps show up big time.

Nice upgrade and a pretty smart way to get it done!
Thanks Steve.

That was really smart how you recycled the doors!  Why spend money and put stuff in the landfill if you don't have to.

Big improvement. Like L/L said the land fill is almost filled.

Thanks, I used regular latex paint with a little Floetrol to reduce brush marks and let the paint flow and not conceal the grain.
