Game Box for Pegs and Jokers Boards

This is a little box I just finished for storing my pegs and jokers game. It is made from 3/4" quarter sawn white oak and it is stained with Michaels Cherry stain from the Amish shop Shipshewana, Ind.

The box has an integral hinge but it is the weak sister of the box. I already broke out the wood once when the lid tipped back too quickly. I need to add a small cable restraint to hold the lid from moving too far back. I installed a brass bushing and guide pin in the front wall to keep it aligned because it is so long.

The lid with the handle is an experiment that I wanted to try. The sides and the bottom of the box are joined using a lock miter bit. The top was added separately. I resawed the top, shaped the handle, and then glued it back together. I had two blind 1/8" dowels in the handle to line it up for the reglue .

When I went looking for a hasp, I spotted one that swings into a pin with a hole in it but it looked kind of chincy so I made one out of brass. I added a shot of the parts I had to make. The ball is soldered on for a handle and it works pretty slick.

It is finished with clear matte spray. ....Cheers, Jim

Nice design n the lid and the hinge is impressive.

Nice work overall, and the figure in that QSWO is absolutely gorgeous. I have a couple of stupid expensive (as in wood boutique) planks of QSWO that I need to use before I die. I've already had them laying around for nearly a decade.

The QSO looks awesome, and the handle is Fab.

I always wanted to make a handle like that, without a bandsaw I would have to do it on a tablesaw, so the kerf gradiations would be a feature.  Ehh, maybe someday.

Really eye catching.  The top is unique and works perfectly with the QSWO.
Love the handle design!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Great box and design. It reminds me of a handle I made for my brace and bit storage, display case but a much nicer shape. It looks like the lid was half the work. The QSWO has super figure.

Nice build on this box, and the lid seems to be very popular with others, and you can count me in there too.
Nice Box Jim.  Great design and nice soft finish.

I really like this Jim, I don't know the game, but the entire game box is very nice.

Thank you all for the nice comments. This box was a necessity to hold all the game board pieces. I now wish I had made it bigger for the 2 decks of the cards needed for the game.
