Here are a few pictures of a 72 note Music box, the 4th chapter in my book "Wooden Boxes" This is my favorite box so far. Made out of Maple Burl veneer and solid flamed birch. The violin marquetry is Bloodwood, Holly. Black Ebony, with mahogany veneer on the violins on the outside top.

gorgeous dennis. your veneer and marquetry are beyond compare. i can only wish to be at your level someday.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Beautiful

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Magnificent work and attention to detail.
I have considered making a similar music box but good quality mechanical parts are so expensive I decided no one I knew would appreciate the work and expense involved (but me).  I just looked up similar 72 note mechanisms and they ranged from $600 to $1000.  Of course like clocks they now have cheap digital modules that you can even record your own music on.
You’re beyond a woodworker more of a wood sorcerer
Very nice, Dennis! And I can recommend the book. I’ve read through it, and even though I haven’t built any of the boxes yet, the ideas are in my head now…

May you have the day you deserve!

Great box Dennis. One of my favourites. I think you know that one of my students made one following the instructions in your book.
Making cool stuff is fine but inspiring others is…… priceless!😉

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

A beautiful piece of art Dennis, the grain appears to melt into the box, the trim work is over the top, along with the marquetry.

Thank you so very much everyone for your very inspiring complements.
I'm really starting to like Craftisans web sit, its similar to the old Lumberjocks.

Flawless as always Dennis - that is an extremely pretty music box.
That is a beautiful box.  I really enjoyed the tour of your shop I found on the internet!
You have awesome skills and a great imagination! It all starts with an idea.

You don't always get what you go after, but you do get what you wouldn't have got if you didn't go after what you didn't get. Blaze Foley

Beautiful to look at, and such amazing, crisp detail.
A friend in our Western Australia Woodie group made one use your excellent book!  Sankyo movement?  Have you done anything with their twin 50 note movements on the same shaft?  But as LesB says they area expensive, the 100 note way more than the 72!
Incredible work of art as always. I can't get enough of your work, it looks flawless.
