TV in a door

This is a TV mounted in a door over the dash board in our motor home that replaces the big analog honker and digital tuner box ( and two remotes). I originally wanted to remove all the wood hanging down but when I got into it, that is fastened to a big steel U frame that is screwed in the ceiling and holds up the side cabinets. I adapted around it to make a storage space behind the TV. I used red oak plywood for the interior and solid oak for the frame and trim. Because of the hanging weight, I put 2 brass pins in the frame and bushings in the door to hold the weight. I made the brass pin and hook to retain it so it  cannot swing open while going down the road. The black bracket is made from an old stop sign ( that is real good aluminum and a great material to make brackets out of). The front frame was assembled using  Kreg  pocket screws . I had to mill out a recess for the connectors that come out the side. I had to make the frame over because I originally had the Kreg screws in the vertical members, but the hinges and the recess would not all fit in there with theses holes. Poor planning on my part!! But You can make things over twice as fast as the first time!! Luckily I was able to use the same bottom contoured part I developed to fit the TV

The finish is Zar 120 Teak stain and Deft Clear Lacquer

Nice retrofit Jim, gain some storage and lose some old tech!

Pottzy, did you replace your shower head with that? Looks like the plumber was a bit confused about faucet placement.
Jim,

Nice job on the TV cabinet, and the fix on the frame.

Thank you all for the nice comments. That was good challenge to fill that space where that old huge TV came out of.
