Pistachio Charcutereie Board

This board was made with a very special piece of wood. It was made on the graft line of  of a 70 yr old graft showing the root stock and the male pistachio tree trunk stock. The handle was cut into the root stock . It is 1" x 12" x 16" and finished with Danish Oil and Walrus Oil cutting board wax. It has some turquoise inlay from the Sleeping Beauty mine in Globe, Az.
The board had a full crack down the middle so bad that I had to cut it in two and join the halves to complete it

That's pretty interesting to see how the graft piece and the root stock grew themselves together, makes a nice looking board.
Wow!  The grain had such a feeling of movement.  Really eye catching.
Same sentiment….WOW!!!!.  That is beautiful!
One of the best ever....wonderful grain and growth.     Great that you did a beautiful job to save it.

Not only some fine looking wood, but cut and shaped to make it even better!
Thank you all for the nice comments.
When I cut out the center crack, that allowed it to fit through the planer with the live edge on it.

Really cool looking piece of wood Jim. Totally worth the effort to save it.
That's such a beautiful piece Jim. The wood looks like it's folded like a waving flag. 👍🏻

That looks amazing.

Never seen pistachio wood before, I expected it to have a greenish tint, but it looks like olive :)
That inlay really makes it stand out. Does all this type of wood have this color or is this one extra wild. Excellent job !!!
Thanks, Mike. The pistachio is male and female. The female is pinkish and the male is black/brown color but it is very grainy like this and has lots of cracks when it dries out. This piece is male on the top and the root stock looks more female. This one has the special curved grain where the graft took place.
