Longer XTool Risers

,My friend Wayne, in Arizona ,who got me going on my laser, said he needed longer risers, than the ones they sell, for burning cups and mugs on his turntable. So I made these 5 1/2" long ones. I did not have enough 1" aluminum stock so I turned some short 1" diameter pieces and pressed them into this polished 1 1/8" aluminum tubing and then chased the .915" x 13 TPI ends to screw into the short red feet on the X Tool laser machine

Nice Jim. They look solid.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Not that I'm into metalworking... I've tried ever Harry Potter spell to convert all my ferous machinery into timber... nevertheless I always get fascinated by threads...
and chasing your own,

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Thank you all for the nice comments. I had to take off the head to clean it so I thought it would be good time to remove one of the risers so I could fit these pieces to the thread in the fool.

Hi Alex. I love chasing threads. The lathe was the first machine I learned to operate as an apprentice and threading was part of  it and I never forgot. My Southbend lathe only cuts English threads and the red feet have a 2mm pitch  metric threads. But I found that 2mm is very close to 13 threads per inch and they fit together very well.
2mm=.0788" pitch and 13 tpi=.0769"pitch

Cutting your own threads would be a trait I'd kill for... all those left hand threads I could make for so many jigs I have designed in my head... 3D printing was my salvation for a few, but the plastic just could handle the misuse abuse.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Hi Alex. If you lived here , I could make you all you need. When I was  working and had access to all kinds of  tool steel and the heat treat furnace, I made left handed taps and screws for boring heads for the mill and other tools. We called them "Government jobs" and I did a lot of them. I worked nights for many years and has 2 or 3 machines running at once on power feed............. one for the company and two for me!! So when I finished college and worked in the office , I bought a mill and a lathe for at home and still have them today!
