wasn't sure what to call these. many times i wanted to draw an arch on a project but even my biggest compass wouldn't do it. so i made a couple of these. made from oak with hooks on each end and some light chain from lowes. bend to the size arch you want and hook the chain on the hook. one is 29" and the other is 46". a simple project that i made in about half an hour.
working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment,somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.
I've been trying to buy the LV bows for years, but every time I try due to free ship or other promotion, they are out-of-stock.
Tried making my own a time or two, but the wood I used always was not consistent enough for a truly smooth arch. Since I've been using the laser lately for < 2' wide arches, I haven't really needed one.
I think the reason they’re fiberglass is so they’re consistent. I tried making them with wood, but it seems like you don’t get a perfectly uniform bend. Densities and whatnot…

If these fail to yield a perfectly smooth curve (draw a line, flip it end for end, and see how close it comes to the line), you can sand/shave a bit of wood from the stiffer side. Archers call this tillering a bow.
On the other hand, if you are looking for an asymmetric curve, exaggerate the effect by thinning the thinner side - think of it as a redneck French curve.
