BBQ table tops

these two tables had stainless steel tops which is good for bbq tables but i wanted them to match the other patio tables. at work we had some old ipe that had been out in the weather and would have been thrown out. i used the worst of it to make these. last pic is the pile i pulled from. a quick run through the jointer and some sanding and they were as good as new. used bisquits to keep the boards aligned. in the fourth pic you can see how i did the skirt. the end pieces are slotted to allow for movement. ipe is very dense and ive never had any issues with it slitting even being out in the weather year round. the finish is penofin redwood to enhance the natural color. these tops weigh about 30lbs each so they are not fastened down. that way if i want to use the ss tops i can easily. if you wanna see how they looked before go to my bbq forum.

It's comparatively rare to see your projects, but when you do, you do some damn fine work even if it is just to repair/replace some utility stuff!
thanks splint. this was what id call beginner woodworking though. but damn satisfying !

It was actually you that made me change my mind when replacing a bathtub/shower faucet and had to cut a hole through the back wall (closet) to gain access. I was just going to slap a piece of ply over the hole (cut square of course), but instead made it look like a cabinet door. WWPD (what would Pottzy do). 👍
🤣 always glad to get someone off the street and into a normal life again ! God bless you splint 😇😎

Very nice Pottz! Good on ya!!
Those look good but who tosses Ipe?
It can be out in the weather 50-75 years and still cleans up good!
IIRC, the Coney Island boardwalk was 75 years old before they started replacing it. Ipe!
Came out good for tossed away lumber
well exactly, ipe will last a minimum of 50 years but when people are paying high dollar they want pristine ipe ! if it's gray and weathered  they walk away. smart people will say, hey give me 30% off and ill take it ! sadly most dont know ! so i love the ignorance !

Winner winner Chicken DInner. Gotta love free wood, that matches other wood you maybe got cheaper than normal. :-)

Been waiting to see these. Nicely done buddy. A solid upgrade.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

The original ss looks cool but ipe is beautiful and fitting on them nicely.  Your garden is getting better and better!
