TV Table

I recently put  an antenna in the attic and now we can get rid of one of the cable boxes on the kitchen TV. The controls for the antenna are in the living room and I needed a table for the TV in there and it had to have a shelf for the antenna control under it ( it is a powered antenna)
I made the table out of red oak that I had squirreled away in the barn. I tapered the legs on 2 side and doweled the legs into the aprons under the top and the shelf is held in with pocket screws.
It is finished with satin poly.

This is my taper sled I used to taper the legs:

This is my dowel jig I used to drill the dowel holes in the legs and aprons:

Looks like a solid little table, Jim. Well done!

May you have the day you deserve!

Nicely done!  I like that tapering jig - looks like it can handle any task.  I also see you continue to use your laser.  I'm really starting to consider that as a shop addition (held back in part by my lack of knowledge along with space limitations and anticipated cost).
Jim,

Nice build of the new TV table.
I like your tapering jig.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nicely done. And I like the taper jig! Mine isn’t so nice.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Very nice Jim! Simple yet elegant!!
I made a table almost like it and also have a jig very similar to yours.
I was just having a musing where furniture stores probably gasp when a woodworker walk in. LOL.
Great job on the table. Much better than anything  you could buy.
That taper jig deserves its own project post.
Nice table, like the shelf addition and the engraving - Made in the USA.
My daughter requested a small table for beside her couch, this looks like my solution.
Pure classic!... I like the jig

Great job Jim, nice looking table.

The tapering jig looks like it can handle most anything.

Err, this is my tapering jig on a similar table I did recently :)
Table looks better than for just holding TV stuff.   Nicely done.

Nice work Jim. That's a nice taper jig.
Great Work Jim....Excellent and very useful Project.

Neat little table JJ... Is that for storing a tablet or little TV to look at when SWMBO wants to watch one of those girlie shows?

Unfortunately it appears the jig has stolen the limelight and I must begrudgingly concur... should give it its own project.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I'm glad you like the taper jig. It is kind of universal as I use the other side of when cutting a blank for a celtic knot in a square piece of wood. I have the wall full of jigs like that. I made them once out of necessity and  they let me  make a similar piece in the future like these legs. If I make a project out of the table jig, I will have to make some samples to show it in use..

Hi Barbara. I love this X Tool laser. I found it on E bay - it is reconditioned by X Tool and sold at a  a lower price with a new tool warranty...here it is on E Bay:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/176614697209?_skw=xtool+d1+pro+laser+engraver&itmmeta=01JAX0APZS0TGJM4WEWACZ2G7P&hash=item291f0e68f9:g:Fp4AAOSwqdFnAshl&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABAHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKnKDeR3%2FHZTn0No8nPtkf1QSbBuzvrE8dd4hyx1PXmkMA33P9cjMwBuJvHw%2B2VnFwtqwleqJd1lHYqArzqXpo%2FOh6NRsEeO%2FhAlGMsAMjlc4RZtY%2B3CVDOocrm42ABQ3mVSPSdnwHl1mjd%2BjRGOC9g4XbLnGMd88zs4CoqFNOdfq%2FQnF14mOPRe%2Btzd%2BCUoMKpzeOGFJjnE1o5vwO6RJD7iOIaRSL5Q7TIsszBA8RkEMn3hZdv6txA6Upl5alYS%2Ffg3C3Sy%2BwLkViHf3tlMFKvHdQ9Zf8X1gtNYjTUAVz600EBvDnRzVEkeCDZU8g0I7Bc%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4LwqqDXZA

Hi Tom, If you send me a part of the table, I can burn Made in the USA in it for you or I could burn a placque that could be glued under  it? Let me know.

Nice table Jim.

Do you have more in the laser for an enclosure, fan etc. Or is that stuff something you can make yourself? I'm where Barb is on the laser, do I need one, or just think it's cool? Cost, knowledge are both tripping points.
They’re easier to use than you think, George, and mine ends up, getting used all the time!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Hi George. I don't have a real good place for my laser for exhaust to the outside so I have a switch that turns on the air pump and the vacuum just before I set it to burn. I follow the head with my vacuum to get up as much of the smoke as I can and so far it does a good job. I plan to make a hood for it  with the vacuum attached and that flips up. I have been out with heart surgery so everything got put on hold for a while. I'm just getting to make stuff again.
I looked for 3 years for a laser and decided on this X Tool lase because my neighbor in Arizona bought one  and did some jobs for me with it. I did not think I could learn how to run it but I did and it is quite easy now. It will do 100 times what I use if for but I'm not a teckie...my motto is the KISS principle. The XCS software that comes with it is very user friendly. I sent an EBay link above to a reconditioned one like I have- saves you Hundreds.

If you (and BB1) decide to bite the bullet laser beam, if you can possible find a few extra shekels get one that will cut at least 3mm ply/MDF.  Forget my MDF puzzles... the cut will permit making routing templates that can then be extrapolated into extensive projects.
