Mesquite Rocking Chair

Hi Craftisians,

I call this my Franken-Rocker. That's because it is a combination of several different plans merged together. I originally wanted to build a version of the Gamble House Living Room rocker.  But once  I started investigating, I knew it was too complicated for my first attempt at a chair project of any sort.  So, I simplified, and built what I was comfortable with. The result is a strong Southwestern flavor with a dash of Craftsman and G&G.  The wife and I are OK with the results and the rocker looks nice in our Master Bedroom with the other 8 pieces of Mesquite furniture that we've completed...

Details -  Mesquite with Black Walnut pegs and splines. Mortise and loose tenon joinery. Bent lamination rockers. The seat rails have a gentle 3 degree angle from front to back. The wifey picked out the fabric and we did the upholstery work ourselves. The finish is nice and simple - 2 brush coats of Danish Oil (natural) and 2 sprayed coats of Shellac (blonde/clear). The  seat width in the front is 20 inches and the top of the back legs measures 40 inches.

Happy to answer any question. Comments are always welcome.  Thanks...
That looks awesome! You did a great job combining details to make a beautiful design.
What a great looking first try! That really came out beautiful, I know I'd be happy with it.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Very good looking!   Like the mesquite and the fabric together.   Nice upholstery work.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

It came out great. The styles meld together beautifully. You started a new style of southwest G&G and Arts & Craft style.

Amen Tom!

Great combo with the mesquite, design, and fabric. The back splat details are quite the icing, very nice looking rocker.
Pretty darn nice for a first attempt.
