Mesquite Dresser w/ G&G details

Hi Craftisians.

Mesquite 6-drawer dresser with G&G details. Pretty straight forward construction. Plywood sides with web frames form the basic internal skeleton. The side panels are shop-cut veneers with applied moldings.  The corner posts, base, top, drawer fronts and face frame are all solid  lumber. The drawers are BB with the top edges trimmed with Mesquite. I used soft-close, undermount drawer slides. Love those things. The splines and plugs are Black Walnut. The finish is simple. 2 brush coats of Danish Oil (natural) and 2 sprayed coats of Shellac (clear/blonde).

The dresser is 33.25 inches tall. The top is 64.75 inches by 20.5 inches and you'll notice that it's a 3 breadboard configuration. I just didn't have enough long stock to make a traditional 2 breadboard top. Yeah, it's kind of different. But we think it works within the overall design.

I've included a number of pics before the finish was applied. It's amazing how the oil and shellac changes the color of the Mesquite. Comments are always welcome. Happy to answer any questions. Thanks Craftisians...

PS - Not the best pictures. Sorry about that...

You're putting together quite the set of furniture!

The top drawer accents is a nice blend of G&G with a southwest flair.
love it man. sure wish i had access to that mesquite. so you made your own ply for the panels ? how thick do you resaw your veneers ? do you fill the cracks and voids with black epoxy ? i see a nice G&G mirror behind the dresser too. your work is top notch tim.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Yes!

Love the details, handles are superb!
Great dresser!  Love the wood, details, design, etc!   Nice!

Petey - Thanks for the compliment...

Steve Rasmussen - Thanks Steve.  Yes, Everything I've posted since finding this great site is from our 9-piece bedroom set.  I'm currently working on similar pieces for our living room. About those top drawer accents - They are a twist on the original G&G accents. They were suggested by the wife. Smart girl, I'm glad I listened!

Pottz - Thanks. I try to resaw and mill the veneers down to 1/8 inch. But it can be problematic with Mesquite because of it's cracked, gnarly nature. Too thin and they can just fall apart. The veneers usually end up being a tad thicker than 1/8. Yes, I do some black epoxy fill work if it is a structural issue. But the wife likes the natural cracks, so we tend to leave them unfilled for the most part. Thanks again for the kind comments. Much appreciated...
Splinter - Thank you. Yes, real happy with the handles. The design consultant (my wife) thought it would be a good idea to make the pulls for the top drawers different than the lower drawers for visual interest.

987Ron - Thanks. Never thought Mesquite with G&G details would work so well together. But now, we're addicited to the style. Thanks again...

Tim, fantastic craftsmanship on this dresser, it's a beauty for sure.
When I viewed the pics the 3 breadboard top looked very nice, just assumed it was to be that way from the start.  Looks great
Oldtool - Thank you for the nice words. The 3 breadboard top was a last minute design change. I saved my long pieces for the base. By the time I got to the top, I knew that I'd have to figure out an alternative. It can be a little difficult to get Mesquite in long lengths. I ran into the same issue with a previous table I posted.  Anyway, thank you for viewing and commenting on my project...
Another great furniture project! You'll have to do a "group picture" of everything together (as I think of this, likely too many items for one picture!).
Beauty!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

BB1 - Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing when it dawned on me how impossible a "group picture" would be! Anyway, thanks for the kind words...

RyanGi - Thank you.
That grain is awesome. Almost looks like it's spalted.
MrRick - Hmmm, never thought about that.  But it does have kind of a spalted look to it. Mesquite definately has lots of character...
