Support Plates

These are a couple support plates I made for 9" paper plates. They come in handy when eating watermelon so the juice does not run off when the plate bends. They are made from female box elder and finished with satin lacquer.

I had some made from eucalyptus , but my grand daughter put one in the dishwasher and it came out all warped and cracked. I put a warning on these !!!

Be good for more things than Watermelon.   Like the shape and the  idea.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Haha, I like the message! Hopefully, you won't need to make another pair that you put the message on the top side:)

No name noobie here

I'll bet your grand daughter doesn't make that mistake again. Do not put grandpa's wood projects in the dishwasher! Nice work. The support plates look good. Hope they stay that way!!!

But the washer must have smelt good... Must have gotten dirty,

when it fell off.

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

Really great idea Jim, very handy. Is your granddaughter old enough to read that back?

Those look really nice Jim! Couldn't be classier for holding paper plates. How did you make them. Did you use a lathe at all?
Thanks Mr Rick. They were made completely on the lathe. I glued on a spigot in the center and turned the inside and then  flipped them over and used a jam chuck to finish the outside.
