I recently bought a Frank Lloyd Wright Barrel Chair built in the late eighties. I didn’t care for the color of seat it came with so I built a new seat and had it upholstered by Glenn Quezada he used the same piece of leather he upholstered the Sam Maloof recliner chair.
Glenn worked with Sam Maloof, Thomas Moser and others to upholster their chairs. This was his first Frank Lloyd Wright chair. His company is called GQ Interiors.
I came up with this build and headed to the upholsterer.
Here’s what the original cushion looks like.

I saved the old cushion in case I sell the chair. It still has the old manufacturer label on it. Glenn and I hit it off. He’s a great furniture builder and upholsterer. Now the black leather on the seat matches the black leather on our living room furniture.
I think I gave this chair new life but saved its original design.
This chair was built by the Italian classic furniture company Cassina, a furniture maker who still holds the rights to make these chairs. Thanks for stopping by and viewing my project.
Lucky you rubbed out that compass line... it might have convinced your circle cutter you didn't trust it.
..... Glenn worked with Sam Maloof, Thomas Moser and others to upholster their chairs.....
Hell, even I might have worked for Sam and the boys, if it wasn't for that pissant glass in my right hand, hadn't been upgraded to casks of vino after my "upholstery" job back in 1974 in a one bedroom, 1st floor flat, Only done in vinyl, but so were all out clothes so you didn’t stick to the furniture.
Forget the glass comment... Don’t know who that idiot is… I don’t read.
If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD
Thanks Ducky. Your vinyl chairs were nice. Are they long playing? They could use more doily’s. I gotta have more doily’s! Looks like you’re still stuck there.
Thanks Steve. He’s great. He called me and I came back early from my vacation to pick up the chair. I’m so happy with the way it came out. The bottom of the old cushion had a molded fiberglass piece under the upholstery. He made it just by using super heavy weight upholstery foam. He’s an artist.
I don’t know what it is about you Ducky. I don’t have the formal but you make me laugh like that 3 legged guy that Rob was hanging out with. But you do make me chuckle. You will last to be a 1000.
