Arts And Crafts Style Laundry Bench

After I finished our laundry room we needed  more storage so I designed and built this bench in the Arts and Crafts style with ebony screw plug covers to match the cabinets.

In the photo below you can see where  I add my 4 square mortise design. I added the Ebony screw covers to hide the SS screws that go into the mortised solid oak top and bottom shelf. They are glued and screwed into the mortises.

The ebony screw covers are 1/2” x 1/2” and the square mortises are 5/8” x 5/8”.

I added wheels so it can easily be removed from the room when we clean or replace the washer or dryer.

This was also posted on the Evil web site.
Thanks for taking time out of your incredibly busy day to look at a laundry bench. 👀

That's nice! I'd like to build some things but there wouldn't be a place to put them.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Thanks Dark_Lightning

Pottz  thanks I used wipe on poly. It’s been a while since I built it so I freshened the top with a thin coat of tung oil.  We’re getting a new dryer tomorrow so I also added wheels.

Very nice work James, this matches the cabinets perfectly.
Thank you OldTool. I was hoping it would.

Nice bench, James. I had an occasion to look at the evil wood web site and I'm glad I'm here!!!!!!!

Red oak?

Looks fine James!

Is that for hauling laundry baskets to and fro, or a place to sit watching the clothes go round?
Hahaha Jim J. And thank you.

Splinter it is a place to watch. I charge admission but for you it’s half off.

That looks great James! I think that's about the classiest laundry room I have seen.

It's not just workshop items that can benefit from wheels

... even most cars have a couple of them... unless you live in a rough neighbourhood and visit me in downtown Churchill,

I added wheels so it can easily be removed from the room when we clean or replace the washer or dryer.
Hope they are not AI wheels... if the black wheels refused to go where the white wheels wanna, you'll never get any washing done.

Beautiful, James! and I like how your furniture is all red or white oak in the room.

No name noobie here

Nice bench, seat, etc.   Looks great.

Awesome bench!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nicely done James. I always look forward to your projects. Thanks for posting...

PS - That laundry room looks nicer than most rooms in my house!!!
Thanks Steve R.
Ducky you noticed the wheels were different. I had a few sets but I wanted all of them to swivel so I took the swivel wheel from two different sets. You won’t notice the difference when the bench is against the wall.
YATi thank you
Ron thanks.
Thank you Ryan
Tim thank you

Thanks Gary G.

YRTi and Splinter I saw you two mention Red Oak. The old cabinets were made of solid red oak frames and the doors were raised panels in the cathedral style.

I removed the old doors and drawers, sanded and stained the frames. I recycled as much wood from the old doors and drawers as I could and rebuild them in the Arts and Crafts style. I had some leftover oak and used some of it for the laundry bench. And that’s why my friends the laundry bench is made from red oak. And it was a lot cheaper than QSWO.

YRTi. Some of the accessories like this frame the mantle clock and the mirror frame are made from QSWO.

Sorry, I wasn't questioning the choice, just taking a guess on the wood you used. I seem to never notice the keywords at the end of the post🙄
Oh. I should be sorry. The answer to your question is Red Oak. 🙂 Since I build most of my projects from QSWO I thought you were thinking what’s going with James. No reason to be sorry Splinter. Just thought it would look better if I made it from the same type of wood as the cabinets.

You don't have to be a wall flower to notice, as when it rolls over for a snooze,

everyone will... or do you even deny it a smoko?
