My colleague Spider Johnson was referred to this client by his friend Silas Kopf (yes, THAT Silas Kopf!) and I was jumping out of my skin with excitement for this one! The client was in upstate NY- a high end cabinet shop. Their client wanted replicas of the Art Deco elevator doors in the Chrysler Building in NYC, to be installed in a library also upstate. We had never worked with 3/16 brass before- just 1/16. We found a company in San Antonio to do the water jet cutting of the brass plate. The veneers came from the client- and had to be 3/16 as well. We cut the veneers with a laser.
The original pattern was modified by the client to incorporate a transom (seen in the last photo here), but the rest is identical. The veneer choices were changed as well (I suppose to match the library interior). We definitely had some challenges with the cad drawings being off in some areas, and had to hand-modify and re-cut some of the brass pieces on a scroll saw as well as some of the veneers.
The last photo is a shot (not great though) of the finished doors. I am hoping to get a shot of them installed.

Nice doors.
Incorporating brass in marquetry is something I have on my list.
