This box has a seven degree slope to the box body and this design had me thinking for a bit on how to make a tray and ledger to support it . The answer was simple in the end and the solution also made the lid design simpler .
I designed a tray with a rim at the top so it would be suspended from the top rim of the box and this also provided a shadow line recess when the lid is placed on the box giving the lid a floating look ,the lid bottom has been reduced to fit slightly loose into the tray .
The materials used are hickory for the box body and American walnut for the lid and Peruvian walnut for the corner splines .The box bottom and tray are lined with a rich dark brown cloth sewn to poster board backing and a matching design handle completes the tray . The box size is 9”W x 6”D x3 3/4”H and has been finished with a oil and wax .
I hope you enjoy and comments and questions are always welcome .

That design is outstanding! I would like to recreate this myself, but afraid it would not come close to yours.
Thanks again for your comments .
