Pagoda table/pedestal for Chinese chess table
I have a good friend who ask me to make a pagoda style table for a chess board his father brought back from the orient sometime in the 1920’s or 1930’s. Rather than attaching the table, I fitted the top so it would fit into the trey bottom of the board so the top merely rests on it like a pedestal. The legs are made from non-aromatic cedar, while the drawer front and skirts are made from Brazilian mohogony. Amazingly after the cedar and mohogony was stained with General Finishes prairie wheat jell stain, they came close to matching the board.

By the way, the project I used the GF gel stain on was a cabinet made of mahogany plywood. It really worked out awesome. It seems to get into the grain and almost reflect light from under the grain. Really makes the grain pop.
