My granddaughter has just matured from the sensory stage of an infant to the exploratory/play stage of the toddler (or pre-toddler, as she hasn’t mastered walking as of yet).
… and that all means that Grandmum needs some different toys available!
She loves (and is good at) putting a ball in the toy basketball net so I decided to start with a ball.
The Ball: I used this for the pattern http://www.craftdesigns4you.com/freecrochetball.htm. Thanks to Cherie Marie Leck for sharing her pattern.
I decided to use the two different colours for visual and sensory texture discrimination.
For the basket, I cut a milk jug in half and basically crocheted around it.
I used a basic granny square pattern for the base and then used double crochets up the sides.
I punched holes in the top of the milk jug and attached the basket. I then did a row of single crochets around the top.
I need to find a better way to cover the inside edge of the plastic liner but it works. I might end up gluing a ribbon around the inside edge to cover up the punched holes better. You can’t see them but if you grab it right you can feel them, not that they are sharp but they are noticeable.
