Table Saw for Steel or... How To Make Hot Pants

This is an idea that I have had kicking around in my head for a while now but faced with the task of making four new sets of steel blade clamps for my four new chevalets, I decided now was the time. It is really no more than a mini grinder equipped with a cut off disc to which I have added an adjustable reference surface and a sled. It works like a hot (literally) damn.

I cut all these pieces in about a half hour. They would have taken me all day (and nearly killed me) with a hacksaw.

These are the new clamps. You can see the "how to" in this blog.

I designed as I built and the whole process took less than two hours. The best part is I used all stuff that was already around the shop ….. free!

Thanks for looking

Paul

I still cut metal with my Milwaukee 5” cordless circular saw with a metal-cutting blade popped into it. Works great on annealed 3/32 O-1 steel, as long as I can find a way to hold the steel, usually by screwing it to a piece of pine and clamping that to my bench.

The idea of making a small table saw out of it has some appeal…

May you have the day you deserve!

Hot pants, haha! I burnt a hole in my jeans cutting saw plate with an angle grinder. 😯

I’ve done that cutting with oxy-acetylene but not grinding ……. yet … 🤣

Have a pic of the set up Paul?
Nothing better than slag falling inside your boot while cutting with a oxy act torch just grin and bear it
There are better pics in the project post of the same name.
On the slag in the boot topic…. Been there , done that!  Owwwww! F***!!!!

Is there a way to advance the grinder when the blade wears? That’s a much better way to keep your fingers from getting cut.
Yes. The table is hinged. As the disc wears you can lower it.

I see the slotted holes to raise and lower it. Real nice design
Thanks.
