Wegner Dolphin Chair #1: Four years later

This is part 1 in a 2 part series: Wegner Dolphin Chair

  1. Four years later
  2. Router templates

It's been 4 years since I built the 1:6 scale model of the "Dolphin" chair by Hans Wegner.   Back then, I didn't have time to dedicate to a full-sized chair build, but making a model didn't take too long and it scratched my chair-building itch.   Now I have that urge again, and it's time to tackle the full-sized chair.  Plus, since I've built both the model and full-sized Modeline floor lamp, I feel like I've left something undone.

The original design was a folding chair, but I'll be building it as a fixed chair.  I figured that I would want to display the chair, not store it folded, so why go to the trouble of making it foldable?  Also, the originals were caned, but I'll be weaving mine with Danish cord, my favorite.  Both of these changes introduce some design and construction considerations, but I think I have them worked out.  In my head, at least.

The first step is to resurrect my old VCarve design file and cut routing routing templates for the main parts, which I'll post next.
