Making my first plane.

I have been wanting to make myself a plane for the longest time. Finally I got some plane blades from a picker friend of mine.

This is the blade and the block of Walnut.

Now we have the sides and body parts.

Now the geometry is starting to take shape. That is a 3/8" rod for the wedge holder.

The glue up.

The finished parts.

And viola the finished product.

Nice build! So how does your new plane work for you?

That is a beautiful gem. And yeah, how is it at planing?

It works marvelous!

Wow looks great. Your braver than I am. I would have to have an actual plan for one of them. I hate to waste wood And I probably would lol. Maybe after I get all my other projects done I might tackle one.

Very nice. I have a couple half made just waiting on the blades. I have tried a couple of old chisels but they were to hard to drill thru, my design uses a screw to adjust the tightness. Maybe I’ll try the local flea market again for blades.

Great work Madts. You made sound simple.
I have been wanting to make a rabbet plane But never did built it.

Very nicely done Madts. It would be nice to see some sweet shavings coming from it.

Well OK. Here are some pics of some shavings.
This one went right through a knot.
