Bobbin and Flyer for Antique Spinning Wheel

was at a craft show last weekend and a couple from the Renaissance Fair asked if I did custom work. I got this job of making a bobbin and flyer for their spinning wheel. It is a spare bobbin and their flyer broke through the hole and was glued together and they did no trust it. They could  not buy these parts anywhere.
I made the parts from mesquite. The bobbin is 3 pieces and I added two strips of mesquite  around the hole  of the flyer that are going cross grain  to reinforce that area.

I finished the parts with Danish oil.

I added a shot of their spinning wheel with their current parts in place to show where they go.

Really nice, bet they were glad to have asked you for these. Custom woodwork for parts not available elsewhere, nice.
Nicely done Jim, and you made their day with the replacement. A great job on the reproduction, which will probably be stronger than the original.

Jim that is a cool project, and I'm sure they love that they found you.  Get ready for orders. If the word spreads.

I'm wiling to bet that these look better than the originals when new. Nice!
Over engineered I suppose, your trademark Jim!
Great job! That’s why true craftsmanship will never die…

Good job, Jim! Probably felt pretty good to help them out.

May you have the day you deserve!

Thank you all for the nice comments. I asked them to spread the word to the Renaissance people that I can make the pars they can no longer find. Hopefully it will bring in more variety of work which I enjoy.

I am sure you will pick up some of the items which are needed. And variety is always nice.

Given your ability to make most any shaped items, your shop time will be booked solid!
Nice work.
I've done a few similar repairs for friends and their appreciation is always rewarding.
Thanks Eric, Bruce and Les!!
Hi Bruce. I'm getting in a lot of lathe time these days. I turned a volcano bow today and then made a lid for it.
