Funeral Urn

I made this mesquite urn for my good friend Lee who was hit by a train earlier this month. The log I made this out of was one that Lee helped us bring back from Maricopa, Az about 3 years ago. The hex body is 6" high and has a volume of 234 cubic inches. The top and bottom were turned from the same material. It is finished with Danish oil and satin lacquer.  The top of the hex and the underside of the top were left raw so it can be glued together when the ashes are  installed. I have  brass locating pin to orient the top to the front of the urn when gluing.
The cross was made by our local blacksmith, Chuck Andrews, in his forge behind our woodshop. I have some process shots below.
