Marquetry Flowers

This was a fun project I was using as a demonstration piece last year at the Calgary Stampede (a very large, 2 week rodeo/rides/exhibition) where SAWS (Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society) had an exhibition one day. I was cutting these pieces out on my chevalet and have finally gotten around to completing it.

This was done in piece by piece, so I have 3 other identical copies I cut at the same time as this one. All that is left is to shade and put them together (the other 3). I made a tracing from a black and white image of a panel on a roll top desk by Jean-Henri Riesener to recreate this.

It has been 2.5 years since I took course from Shipwright online and bought a chevalet from him to learn with. Every penny was worth it and well spent and the itch he started in me has not gone away.

Anyways, this was done with dyed maple background, bloodwood, paduak, purpleheart, yellowheart, maple and dyed poplar for the greens. I am giving it a French Polish right now and have to figure out what I will make it into now (frame? box? I don't know). It is a gift for a friend.

IMHO this is your best yet Ryan, …. and they just keep getting better. You can do anything I can already. The sky’s the limit.

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

Absolutely beautiful!  seriously!
Shipwright is calling it the best and that the sky is the limit. What should I add to that?

Stunning work! A frame sounds like a great plan.
Looks almost like a painting. Where did you get all those incredible colored veneers?

I got these veneers from ocoochhardwoods.com
They sell them in 1/16" in various widths,
all at 2 foot long.
