Marquetry Blue Jay "window".

My goal was to make this look like an old farm house window you look out of and see a little nature peeking back in. I tried to make the “window” appear old and a little weathered. I used aniline dye to stain the oak and then sanded it back lightly to give the faded look.

The actual “panes” are filled with clear cast resin. First time trying something like this. It’ll be interesting to see the UV protective qualities of the resin (claims it on the bottles) on the veneers in the marquetry.

Just can’t do that any better Ryan. You nailed it.
The Jay is outstanding and lifelike and the “glazing” is a very cool bit of creative thinking.

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

Very nice.   wonderful piece

You nailed the farmhouse feel, everything looks aged like something you would see in an old photo 👍
Gorgeous. The jay and Holley as well as the aged farmhouse look are fantastic.
Beautiful marquetry work. Excellent!
So much more interesting than a usual marquetry picture. Some very fine detail. I really like the window frame and 'panes' of glass which work well -  different.

Thank you for the kind comments. I am most excited to see how this ages, especially the resin windows. They state on the container to have UV protective qualities (in terms of the resin yellowing, but hopefully it protects some of the veneer). I can't wait to see what happens with some of these colors over the years.

Ryan,
You really nailed it on this one (or should I have said "glued" it?).  The resin certainly adds the window dressing!

Wow.  The glazing technique is a cool affect.  This is one of those situations where a few bubbles in the resin would actually give it the look of an old glass pane.

What else can I say that hasn't already been said? That is beautiful work, you really made the best of that class.

Some day when I’m finished with all the projects around my house I hope to accomplish something the that fine.
