Bowtie Folding Table

This is a little table that I need when we go to car shows. I thought I'd make it in a Chevy theme . First I wanted to make an insert and rout it in, but that would mean the corners would be rounded and I wanted them sharp. So I made the bow tie out of three pieces and glued on ends and then the sides. It conforms to the golden rectangle being 18.75" long and 11.6" wide. The sides are a 123" radius and the ends are a 28" radius.

It is made from soft maple with a pistachio bowtie. The pivot blocks are made from hard maple because I had to tap holes in them for set screws. All the hardware is solid brass. The hasps are custom made to flip over and lock when upright.
The cross supports and pivot blocks are doweled in place. In order to keep the ends of the legs from wearing or splitting, I used part of the brass casing from a 30-30 shell to line the holes.

It has red "feet" because I coated the leg tips with West System epoxy to keep moisture from creeping into the legs when we use the table on grass. I sewed a vinyl sleeve for it so it does not get beat up in the trunk with a char sitting on top of it.

It is finished with UV resistant polyurethane.

Nice job Jim, I didn't know you were a Chevy guy. I have a couple of old Chevys myself and I would love to make something like that. This also made me think of an old project I never posted, I'll have to remedy that.

Even as a Ford fan, this is a great looking table.  ;)  Guessing you get requests from others to make one for their use.
Sweet Monte Jim, the old style before they became too boxy looking.

Hi John, I started out with a '54 Ford, then I say my cousin's '55 C gasser and went Chevy from then on.

Hi Barbara. I did get a request for one at the last show. I have 4 projects going right now so I had to put them off for a while.
