Cherry Folding Chair

This is a carry over project from LJ's and here is a tip for all LJ's Since the search engine on LJ's does not find anything any more, I found that if you  know the project, blog or forum title and type it into google with your name, it takes you right to it.

I made this chair I made to take to car shows in my '72 Monte Carlo. I wanted a chair that sat at a comfortable height and did not squish me like the bag chairs do. It is made from cherry with stainless steel pins for pivots and 44mag cartridge casings in the wood for bearings for the seat swivels. The construction is dowels and glue.

It is 33" high, 17 5/8" wide , 21" front to back and 4" thick when folded. The seat height is 19". It weighs 11 1/2# compared to 13# for the plywood prototype. I went with a pivot like the chair I saw made in Finland instead of the brass hinge I used on the plywood prototype chair.

The Chevy bowtie inlay on the front is pistachio wood surrounded by turquoise. The one in the back was pistachio but I had some problems there and had to recut the inlay and insert walnut because my remaining piece of pistachio was too small. The lettering is inlaid with turquoise also. I did the inlay on the bowtie with my mill but I had the lettering done on a CNC router. The CNC router did the bowtie the first time and got it off center

It is to be an outdoor chair and I wanted the photos outdoors and this was taken in December. At least the sun came out for the photo shoot!!! Now it is 90 degrees out in Michigan

It is finished with Polyurethane.
