My well traveled laptop computer with win 7 on it and my beloved Command & Conquer game from over 25 years ago died. I was at antmans farm and decided to relax and do some NOD bashing, lo and behold the screen went blank. No prob I thought as I packed it away I will plug in a monitor when I returned home. Sadly it was not to be so nary a flicker ever radiated from it again!
So I bought a new one pretty small I thought, looking around couldn't find a DVD drive, a mouse or any more that two USB ports so close together you couldn't plug in a mouse and a USB stick at he same time. And all just in a cardboard box no carry case or accessories.
So I set to building a suitable transit box for it. I used the packing and original box for the dimensions Some off cuts of ply wood and a piece of InGlass timber pallet material.
jointed and thickness the pieces and made my usual knuckleduster carry handle. applies some Titebond III glue and clamps and hey presto! It all looked a little bland so I decided to dust off my home made veneer strips and a piece of veneer burl
Planned the layout to the best of my ability and this was the finished result it wasn't without a few oops, but it was good practice. Plywood desnt take to kindly to being sanded (notice the sunburn patches! and I need to make a template and cut to it to avoid pieces moving on me. Where would we be without Earls Timbermate.
Its just a box so I was happy! ... I might have to enroll in somebody we know's marquetry course
Replies:- LBD:- thanks and it was a necessity to avoid a machine ripping out a chunk, pity I didn't take a picture doing it, ... push the plane at an angle and its almost like a helix cutter on the veneer. No you haven't wasted your money you will just have to wait a little bit, so maybe you could enjoy a cask or two meantime! mel52:- Thanks 987Ron:- Thanks your both very encouraging to improve my veneering skills GR8HUNTER:- I will have to rattle his cage and get him to reply, as a few members have been asking Steve Rassmussen:- Again thanks Steve HokieKen:- Yep its a good thickness gauge for veneer thats fore sure Pottz:- Thanks Larry and he will def be getting a "Hello" email
A bit of a P.S. I am off to see Antman this weekend the Kubota chucked a uni joint and his working dog decided to take up electrical work. I will raise the profile issue over a beer or 6, ...stand by! whats that clunking noise Ant? the naked rear end, quite involved swapping out the unis, all four were changed! Never chain up the dog up near tasty chewable items!
