Arizona Yucca Walking Stick

It seems that the newest fad in the park is making walking sticks out of yucca stalks. I have fractal burned over a dozen for people in the park, so I thought I do one for me. This one is about 1 1/2" diameter at the top and 5 feet long. While all the others had a nice spreading "tree" pattern, mine did not and burned around the back and deep every time I lit it up. I thought the flame on the bottom was  going to melt my plastic table. So I filled the deep groove with turquoise inlay material and clear coated it. I added  mesquite top and bottom cap and I put a 45 auto cartridge in the top cap.

You just never cease to amaze me with the things you find time to complete. fantastic yet again Jim! love that.
I never though the yucca was strong enough for any practical uses, but then again there are 10K varieties and anything "Arizona Tough"  probably has special attributes!

Good for warding off roadrunners, TNT packing coyotes, and ever the occasional rattler. Nice looking staff Jim!
real nice stick jim.

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice Jim! Do you use a homemade fractal burner or did you buy one or…?

One of the coolest walking I think I have ever seen. Good job.
Nice stick, Jim.

May you have the day you deserve!

Nice stick Jim. Has a Zeus quality with the Fractal burns, look a little like lightening bolts. You need to borrow Kenny's cape. :-))

thank you all for the nice comments. I have more to burn but I'm packed up for leaving on Monday.

Hi Ryan. I built my burner using a microwave transformer ( 2000 volts and 500 milliamps)- the dangerous kind.
I have a rheostat (600 Watt dimmer switch) in in so I  can easily burn small things. I made high PVC handles so I am far way from the tips. It was used a lot this week!!
A safer burner can be made with a Neon light transformer or a transformer from an oil burner ignighter. I'm told they only have 50 milliamps of current. I bought a neon transformer first but it burned out in a week.
cheers, Jim

That is nice, I am a great walking stick fan.  I have on I have had for over 30 years.  Always drug it out to carve on when sitting around a campfire, at the beach.  One of the few things my grandkids argue over who gets it when I die... I am going to fool them.  It will be in my casket with me along with the coke bottle of marbles I have saved from paint cans.  They all had their turn shooting the paint cans with my pellet rifle.  The also argue over who gets that.  Make me feel like my grandkids are just waiting for me to kick the bucket.  That's okay maybe they will feel obligated to show up to my funeral!!  Somebody has to!
Thanks, Paul. I always have a need for steel balls  in things like rattles. I go through a lot of spray cans and also shoot them with a pellet gun in the back yard. I'm going to cut them open and retrieve the steel ball for projects. Thanks for the idea!!!!!!!!!..Cheers, Jim

ps. they can put my steel balls in the urn with the ashes!!!!!!!!!!
