Melamine Wall Unit

Finally finished this Unit.
It's all Melamine with edge banding for the faces.  Shelves are doubled up ( 1 1/2" thick)

I want to make one like this as my wife always ask me to make it but I've never done such a big thing so it's intimidating and I procrastinate it. Good job!

No name noobie here

Really fine fit/finish/design Bent!
Looks perfect for that space, hard to imagine the "before".
Is that dead space between the top shelf and its underside?
Bently,
Even though I much prefer wood, your work is always outstanding.  It makes the room look really great!

Good looking work!    Nice design

It looks great Bent. I like those thick shelves, they make it look substantial, so it matches the overall size. I guess "gives it balance" is a more apt description. Love that overhead shelf, was that you, or it was there already? The way they have dressed it all out, makes it look like $$$$$$$$ That place would sell fast, if put on the market
Thanks YRTi,
Just think of it as a few smaller pieces and it's no so intimidating

Thanks Splint,
There is a lid on the top but for the most part, yes, dead space.

Thanks L/W,
I'm with you.  I used to hate building stuff I didn't like, but I've gotten numb to it and just give them whatever they want.
I will say, as I'm not a big fan of it myself,  it has grown on me....(just a little though)

Thanks Ron

Thanks George,
The short section, on the left side of the "L", had an existing soffit that the client wanted covered,  so I just carried the level all the way around over the top of the unit. Proportion wise, I think it's a little thicker than I would have liked,  but the existing soffit dictated the thickness.
You know the client likes it when you leave for the day and aren't finished,
then come in the next day to find it fully loaded.  lol

That was what I was thinking, some "stash" space, even if you have to lift a lid to use it.

I think the proportions of that shelf are nice! So common to see just a thin shelf.
Above the door I started with a 27" wide lid so they could hide stuff if they want,  but it doesn't look like they will.
I drilled a finger hole to lift it up,  so I guess they have the option to use it if they want.
The rest of it just has 8' tops that lay in the rabbit.

your work is perfection as always. can i guess these people are over 70 ? it just screams grandma and grandpa ! but as you said, it pays the bills !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Very nice!  I love your work and design!

Thats a seamless fit. Everything all flows together like its been there forever. Melamine saves you time from painting it white.
Thanks Pottz,  yes,  they're Our age.  lol  It's weird being the same age as old people.
There well set, just frugal in their lives. They have a nice spread, with horses and a riding track, casita and separate garage 5 or 6 acres,  pretty nice.

Thanks Moke,  always a kind word,  I appreciate that.

Thanks Corelz,

Sounds like another well-done job as evidenced by this (made me smile as I would be the same, wanting to get everything in place!)

A nice piece of furniture, and melamine isn't  always that easy to use. Well done!

Nicely done, as always!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Bent,

Beautiful work.  Like Yrti I am procrastinating as well.  I have a built in todo.  But I am kinda busy.....

First class work Bently! Like others have said, the thick shelves were the right call.
That all went together nicely Bently, the gaps around the doors and drawers are all spot on. I was a bit dubious about what you were going to do with the crown but the space you have created on top and the shelf returning along the wall are just genius.
That looks great, Bently! I didn’t connect it to your blog post about the huge sheets. The melamine looks whiter in the finished project.

I guess your client wanted the precise fit around the TV? It looks nice like that, but they may regret it when the time comes for a new one.

Worse for me.
Spent a year building a will unit for a 33" CRT. Needed the depth. When finished, the 33 crapped out and replaced it with a flat screen. Cats at that time loved the spacious romper room behind the new set. Fortunately I made the upper shelves so they could be dropped down to conform to the different screen format.
The two large "pillars" on each side are pull outs which contain hi-density storage for VHS tapes and DVD's
Now the kids don't even know what a DVD is 🙄

It was obsolete before I was finished.
