Pen Turning Accessories Box

I had all the pen turning stuff in 3 places and needed a utility box to gather it all in one place. This box was made for that. It is 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 10 3/4" and made from 5/16" Baltic birch plywood. The sides, back and front were mitered and glued together..... then the bottom was glued into the recess in the bottom and the top was rabbeted to fit into the box and glued in. I stood it on end and cut the curve on the band saw.
I sketched a wild idea for a unique handle and then made the front latch out of solid brass. The insert inside was custom made to fit the parts I have plus more bushings to be made in the future. I can do 7 and 8mm with these
It is finished with clear satin enamel

I like it Jim! It's cool the way you cut the curved lid on your bandsaw. Simple yet creative.
Nice, Jim! I’m still going with the “scattered across multiple places” for the small pen-turning accessories, though as I use up some inventory of parts, more are moving into the pen suitcase.

May you have the day you deserve!

Love organization projects! Nice job.

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

well done guys !

working with my hands is a joy,it gives me a sense of fulfillment, somthing so many seek and so few find.-SAM MALOOF.

Nice!  Organization projects are always rewarding each time you use them.
This box has 3 unique features of interest: the cut for the lid - not seen very often but very nice, the design of the handle - interesting,  and the solid brass latch - nice work. Great features.

Nothing against the box, but I do love that curved lid separation.

Firsts a box, JJ... then a corner... then a room... finally the whole workshop... pen making can become addictive...

If your first cut is too short... Take the second cut from the longer end... LBD

That's what I should do to organize my stuff. Great job.
Thank you all for the nice comments. I like to have things organized - it makes the job so much easier if you don't have to search for a key item when you get into the work!

Great solution!

I'm really into your signature lid design, sure adds a flair that a simple flat cut does not provide.

Thanks, Bruce. I originally got started making lids that way so that the front of the box was lower than a traditional box with the same height all they way around. That way you can more easily pick things out of it!! For all those cuts I use an angle plate I made for the band saw so that the box is truly vertical and I get the same cut shape on both ends- no taper from one side to the other. It leaves minimal sanding too.

Hi Ducky. I will make a project about my angle plates I use in the shop.
