Ring Mandrel Case

My ring sizing mandrel is aluminum and I did not want to get an nicks in it rolling around in the tote I take to shows. so I made the case out of  female box elder and made a screw on cap using some PVC plumbing threads that are epoxied to the wood.
It is 12" long and finished with some clear satin spray enamel!

Not a tool I’d need, but if you need one…!

Ryan/// ~sigh~ I blew up another bowl. Moke told me "I made the inside bigger than the outside".

Nice execution on specialized case. I'm trying to figure out how you hollowed the case, two piece glue up prior turning?
Thanks you for all the nice comments.

Hi Tom, I hollowed out that long tube with a series of different size drills- it is kinda stepped on the inside. I have a lot of long drills of all sizes- some are made with welded on extensions. The longest is 39". I used it to drill a hole in a 60" floor lamp made from a straight pistachio branch!! I had to go in from each end and got lucky when they met!!!

Make a good poker, looks to serve the purpose it was built for.

Thanks, Ron...............you should have heard what one girl called it at a show when I brought it out!!

Clever idea using the PVC fittings to add threads.  I suppose if you wanted something a little nicer looking, you could use brass fittings as well.

Thanks,Lazyman! Now I have a Dremel setup on my metal lathe and I can cut/chase them out of the original wood. Back when I made this I was not doing any wood threading and used PVC and other threads glued into my projects
