Mallets

I always enjoy making mallets, and for my latest project, I quickly made a few mallets inspired by Japanese hammers (Gennou) to give as gifts to my friends.

The heads are made of Shedua and the handles are Osage orange.

I noticed a slight variation in the Osage orange blanks from Rockler: one had a reddish hue, while the other was the yellowish color I'm more familiar with. Other than the color, their hardness and grain were quite similar, though.

Thank you!

They look nice Mas! Japanese Gennou hammers have one end flat and the other is slightly domed. Yours look flat at both ends. Are they?
those look like a mallet any woodworker would love to have my friend ! 😎

Pottz, Thanks! It's very light weighted so if you find the use, it'll be handy!
RobsCastle, Thank you. More like I want to fix the hump on the liftgate latch by the mallet, haha.

When Yrti creates something, it's beautiful. And so it is now.

Very nice detailed work.   Good design plus nice wood plus excellent workmanship results in wonderful mallets.

Ron

Too pretty to be hitting things with, YRTi!

May you have the day you deserve!

Another great video and the mallets are gorgeous.
Dutchy, thank you! I hope that is the case but meanwhile, I'll do my best
Ron,  Thank you! I'm getting better:)
Dave, haha, After a couple of hits, I believe it'll become just a random tool to hit something.
BB1, Thank you!

Full agreement that these are too nice to "abuse", but if not used, what are they for then?

I think "Mas" in your screen name is just short for "Master"!
Splinter, thank you. I know it's kind of inappropriate here but I realized Mas sounds more like mah a** just like when you say my a** lazily. Oh well I don't mind it at all, haha.
