Baby Bed Conversion

I originally built this baby bed for my first Grandson in 2005. Since that time several Grand-kids have used it but in 2011 the design (Rockler) was deemed "unsafe" by the Consumer Product Safety Commission due to being a drop-side design. So it was collecting dust in storage.
A couple of years ago my wife asked me to convert it to a hall bench for our mud room, so I did. This year I upgraded that bench to a hall tree with a bench so again the converted baby bed appeared to be destined for the burn pile.

A few weeks ago my wife had a great idea of converting it to a porch swing -"Can you do that?" she asked.  "Does a bear eat honey?" - I answered. So thus began my project. I think it came out pretty good and my beautiful wife and kids love it. It can stay in the family for a while longer.

I was able to use the same wood and not add any "outside" wood so I had to plug holes and adjust dimensions so some "love" defects can be seen but overall we love it.

Interesting progression.    Imaginative, work.  Like the swing.

Great way to keep it all in the family! Amazing you had enough "bits" to pull it off so nicely
What a great way to repurpose the bed...to bench...to swing. Nicely done!
Simply put .... Outstanding! Love it when sentimental things can find value again and again.
Great re-use of materials. In all honesty, I think I like this configuration the best. Nice work...
Impressive job of extending thee life of something! I suspect this version will be around for a long time.
Really good job!

On a side note regarding can you do that?

Favorite line from Happy Gilmore 1. Rodney to the bartender "Can you make a bullshark"? Answer "Can you make a shoe stink""
