PLANE #2

It’s been a while since I posted a project because I was annoyed with not being able to post more then one picture or edit a post or blog but it seems to be working now .
This is the second hand plane I made and it is getting to be a bit of an addiction as I much enjoy the build .
This one is made from a wood that was given to me by a buddy (Afzelia, Doussie) and some Jatoba for the handles the iron is from Japan .
The biggest challenge making this plane was the rear handle because I could not get the shape right to fit my hand and the solution was making a mock up from putty and then transfer the shape to wood which worked like a charm .
The adjustable mouth is a item that I have not seen on a wooden plane before but it sure works great especially when taking thin shavings other then that it is straight forward with a bras pin for the wedge and a steel strike button to adjust the iron but i am happy with the look, design and feel in my hands .
Oh yes a Canadian penny inlaid to show who made it ,it’s a mark I use on my hand tools that
I make .

Nice looking plane Klaus. Where did you get the iron?

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

From LV it’s a replacement blade for one of the Japanese planes they sell .

Very nice Klaus.

Any concern with screw holding the mouth as sole wear out?
I would imagine the wood must be plenty hard to withstand normal use.

I like the design.

lanwater .
No should wear just fine and it all can be flattened again if the need arises .

Work of art Klaus We expect no less from you.

Great looking plane Klaus and the adjustable opening is a very nice feature too.

Very nice. You must be hooked now, on making planes. You defiantly did well using putty, I have used that trick making walking sticks for people. It makes the handle fit exactly into the persons hand. Great job again I am inspired.
