Sliding Hatch and Doors

A friend is restoring a lovely old schooner and was in need of a new hatch and doors. He is sewing me a new cockpit enclosure for my boat and in return I built him these.

They are African Mahogany. The door panels and hatch cover are cold moulded of three layers for stability to eliminate swelling and shrinking problems. The hatch slides on Purpleheart rails and it’s smooth as silk!

The early bird gets the worm but its the second mouse that gets the cheese.

She’s a beauty, cap’n!

Bautiful work for a beautiful schooner.
I am glad to see that the art of boatbuilding/repair is still alive.
