Built this for my grand daughters graduation. Traditional style, walnut and maple burl. the biggest challenge was making the top which was domed slightly side to side and front to back, so the burl veneer had to be softened so that it would conform to the dome shape. The initial was cut from maple using a laser. As you can see, the micro jig base on a small proxxon Dremel style drill was an indispensable tool for this job. The finish is Sutherland Wells tung oil. I have another grand daughter graduating in the spring, so we'll be starting another one soon.
