Woodworking Terminology of a 3-year-old

This past Christmas, we put together a woodworking kit for our 3-yr-old grandson. Now that we are babysitting, we have started putting it to use. He loves measuring, hammering, and sawing.

Today, I chuckled as I watched him and Poppop explore the skills and I listened to the conversation.
Some of the terminology used were:

1. The springy thing >> a clamp
2. Spiky >> what the sharp edges of a saw feel like
3. Big boom >> hammering hard; little boom >> hammering lightly
3. Uncrook >> what you do when the nail you are hammering goes crooked; you have to uncrook it

That’s a great story, thanks for sharing. It’s those memories that will stay with the youngones.

That is really nice Msdebbie, particularly the uncrook. If there is anything better in this world than grand kids, I have not found it yet.

A great age to start the grandson on the creative path! Lots of good memories in the making. Enjoy!

MsDebbie,

It looks like you’ve got a lefty there! He’s going to be one terrific woodworker!

He looks pretty good at that Debbie. I wouldn’t be surprised if he will be helping you out with home improvement projects in the nearer than you might think future, so it doesn’t hurt to get him trained up as soon as possible!

we have the first skill going pretty well — always wear the safety glasses :)
