Copper Ginkgo

Every year I make something out of wood and donate it to the Memphis Child Advocacy “Works of Heart” auction that benefits abused children.

This piece is this year’s donation. It is made of yellow heart wood. The actual leaf is 13″ × 41″ and the velvet covered ply with Walnut trim top and bottom measure 24″ × 51″ so it makes quite a presence in the gallery.

The leaf is carved with angle grinder and the new Arbortech turbo plane which really helped sculpt this quickly.

Hope you like it. I do start with a real ginkgo leaf and use that for inspiration and guidance.
